Year 1 Abstract Cubism Fish
Students first drew their abstract cubism fish after briefly looking and discussing Paul Klee's Sinbad and the Sailor painting, which uses Picasso based abstract cubism principles. We reviewed which colours are warm and cool on the colour wheel. Next they used acrylic paint in warm colours to paint their fish and then cool colour food dye wash with white oil pastel resist lines for the background.
Year 4 No-brush Butterfly
Students used sponges only and texture tools to paint their butterfly on a background of food dye wash.
Year 3 No-brush 3D Butterfly
Students used sponges only and texture tools to paint their butterfly. Next they cut out the butterfly and mounted it on their food dye wash background for a 3D effect.
Year 2: Eric Carle-inspired Orange Elephant
First we read Eric Carle's The Artist who Painted a Blue Horse, based on a Franz Marc painting. This book discusses the concept of painting with unusual and unpredictable colours. Students painted a warm colour sheet, to later cut up for their elephant, and a cool colour background sheet. Students cut up the elephant pieces to create their own whimsical orange elephant!

Year 1: Fun with Origami
Prep & P/1C Origami Dog Stick Puppet
We first looked at a book called Spot a Dog which shows famous paintings that all contain dogs. Next students folded a dog head and decorated this with crayons. These were then glued onto a stick to create a puppet.

Years 5 & 6 Metallic Shape Collage inspired by Gustav Klimt
Students learned about Austrian painter Gustav Klimt who lived from 1862-1918. Klimt loved to create visual texture with patterns and lines, and also went through a golden phase using a lot of gold leaf in his paintings. Students used metallic paints and texture tools to paint a sheet which they then cut up into shapes and displayed as a collage on a black, lined background.
