Year 3 Quilling

During the Renaissance, French and Italian nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper most commonly used was strips of paper trimmed from the gilded edges of books. These gilded paper strips were then rolled to create the quilled shapes. Students tried their hand at this paper art with fantastic results!

Year 3 Fabric Collage

Year 3 - 6 Ojos de Dios

Students loved creating the traditional God's Eyes or, in Spanish, Ojos de Dios, and first learned its history. This craft originated with the Huichol indigenous people in western Mexico. The God's Eye is started the first year a baby is born and each year a new colour of yarn is added. It hangs over the child's bed and symbolises God's protective eye watching over the child.

Year 3 Paper Weaving

This term we are working on projects using threads, textiles and weaving techniques. Year 3 students tried their hand at basic paper weaving using rainbow coloured mats and strips.

Year 3 Garden Landscape Silhouette Print

Students cut out shapes from soft foam and glued these onto cardboard. Next they painted the foam to make prints.

These penguins will spend 2 weeks drying out before going into the kiln. Here's hoping that the joins hold and their wings and feet stay attached!

Year 3 Parrots

Using oil pastel and tempera paint

Year 3 No-brush 3D Butterfly

Students used sponges only and texture tools to paint their butterfly. Next they cut out the butterfly and mounted it on their food dye wash background for a 3D effect.

Year 3 Warm Colour Collage Portrait

Students created fun collage portraits in warm colours by cutting mosaic-like pieces of paper to cover the face and using photo print-out facial features. They added hair cut from specialty papers, also in warm colours.
