Year 2 Hug Bracelets

Students watched a YouTube video about what happened when a small group of young people in the Italian city, Sondrio, decided to offer free hugs to others. The results were heart-warming! Students then learned how to bend their two pipe cleaners, representing two arms, and how to thread beads on these to create a bracelet.

Year 5 Paper Strip Birds

Students used staplers and paper craft techniques to construct their colourful birds, now flying high in the art room!

Year 1 Spider Web Weaving Plates

First we listened to the book Sophie's Masterpiece read aloud by CCH Pounder on Storyline Online. This story is about a wonderful spider named Sophie who is initially misunderstood and feared, yet finally seen clearly and recognised as an artist that can weave a beautiful web.

Students learned how to draw a simple cartoon spider and drew this on their plate, colouring it in with marker and then colouring the background with crayon. Next students threaded their plastic needle and weaved a web across their plate. This was a tricky lesson yet all students persevered with impressive results.

Prep & P/1C Bead Snakes

First we read The Singing Snake by Stefan Czernecki and Timothy Rhodes, which is based on an Aboriginal legend about how the didgeridoo was first made. This book also has an underlying theme about honesty and playing fair. Students then threaded beads in patterns onto a pipe cleaner and added bead or button eyes to make their own snake.

Year 4 Sea Creature Prints on an Underwater Background

First students used tissue paper and diluted white glue to make an underwater collage background. Next they cut out sea creatures from print foam and glued these onto cardboard to make a stamp. Lastly they made prints using acrylic paint for a beautiful effect!

Prep Claydough Sculptures

Preps had fun using Claydough and matchsticks, icy pole sticks, buttons, pipe cleaners and straws to create unique sculptures!

Prep & Year 1 Patterns

We watched a couple of short videos about pattern, and discussed how patterns could be made in colour, shape, texture or in any combination of those. Students filled their long strings with as many patterns as they could make using colourful, textured and various shaped wooden beads.

Year 2 Pattern Monsters

Year 2 students listened to the book, Where the Wild Things Are, and then drew their own monster. We discussed pattern and students added this feature to their drawings. Next they cut out their monster and glued it onto their oil pastel rubbing picture for the background.

Year 6 Tree of Life End of Year Project

Students have begun painting the discs, which will be part of their Tree of Life mural display on the wall near the bike stands at school!

Year 3 Paper Weaving

This term we are working on projects using threads, textiles and weaving techniques. Year 3 students tried their hand at basic paper weaving using rainbow coloured mats and strips.
